Viking Refrigerator Warranty: Coverage Years and the Right Parts

Viking's refrigerator warranty covers the whole unit for two years, then the sealed system with parts and labor in years 3 to 6 and parts only in years 7 to 12. See what voids it, where the serial plate sits and which part numbers to order.

Viking’s warranty pays for every part and every hour of labor on a home refrigerator for two years, counted from the purchase date or from the closing on a newly built house, whichever gives you longer. From the start of year three, only the sealed system stays protected. On integrated, built-in and freestanding Viking refrigeration, that means the compressor, evaporator, condenser, connecting tubing and dryer/strainer get parts and labor through year six, then parts alone through year twelve. Fans, control boards, ice makers, lights and door gaskets become your expense once the first two years are up. So the thing that decides your bill is less the age of the refrigerator than which component actually gave out.

The coverage, year by year

Age of the refrigeratorWhat Viking pays forWhat you pay for
Years 1–2All parts and laborNothing, in normal home use
Years 3–6Sealed-system parts and laborEvery other repair
Years 7–12Sealed-system partsSealed-system labor and every other repair
After year 12NothingEverything

Undercounter and wine models sit in a separate warranty category. Their sealed systems get parts and labor in years three through six and stop there, with no parts-only stretch to year twelve. If your kitchen has a full-height column and a drawer unit, check which category each belongs to before assuming they match.

What takes a refrigerator out of coverage

A few purchase and usage details cancel or shrink the warranty, and they are worth checking before anyone opens a panel:

  • How it was sold. Units bought as B-stock, liquidation, salvage, seconds, refurbished, as-is or used carry no Viking warranty at all.
  • Where it was bought. Coverage applies only to products purchased in the United States or Canada and serviced in that same country.
  • How it is used. Viking designs for homes. Settings such as bed and breakfasts, fire stations, churches and condo common areas get a shorter 90-day parts-and-labor Residential Plus warranty, while restaurants and other commercial kitchens get nothing.
  • Cosmetic flaws. Dents, scratches and finish defects are covered for 90 days only when they come from manufacturing rather than handling or installation, and you must tell the selling dealer within that window. Look over every panel on delivery day.

Bought a house with the Viking already built in

If you bought a Bothell home with a built-in Viking already set into the cabinetry, the warranty can still apply to you. It follows the appliance to a new owner, but only when it changes hands as part of a home sale. When the seller has no receipt and never registered the unit, Viking treats the production date coded into the serial number as the start date. Registration is optional for coverage; it simply proves when the clock began. A refrigerator built six or seven years before a sale in Queensborough may still have sealed-system parts coverage left, so read the serial before writing off a dead compressor.

Where the model and serial numbers hide

Every claim and every parts order starts with the model and serial number, and Viking keeps them out of sight. On 5 Series built-in refrigerators, look on the upper interior wall behind the light. On the VEIL integrated line, including FDREIC all-refrigerators, FDFZIC freezer columns and the FDBMIC7360 bottom-freezer, the product plate sits inside the refrigerator compartment on the wall opposite the door opening. Take a sharp phone photo of the plate; it can spare you a second visit when a part has to be ordered.

Genuine parts versus aftermarket

Water filters are the part owners buy most often, and they are where cheap copies cause the most grief. A cartridge that seats slightly loose can let water slip past the media or weep at the housing, and that drip often surfaces as a puddle under the toe kick. The genuine numbers are model-specific:

  • Integrated columns that take RWFDISP: the cartridge sits at the bottom right behind the door, comes out with a quarter turn counterclockwise, and the lit FILTER button resets the reminder.
  • FDREIC integrated all-refrigerators: filter RWFIC, rated for 3,000 litres (792.6 gallons) or 12 months, whichever arrives first, after which the display reads Replace filter.
  • The RVFFR336 French-door model: filter RWFRVFFR every 6 months; hold Alarm Off for 3 seconds to clear the icon.
  • Older built-ins under manual F20413, such as the VCSB423 and VCBB363: a new cartridge every nine months or 750 gallons, then run the dispenser for three minutes to flush it.

Water around Bothell is soft by national standards, so the calendar and the gallon count, not mineral scale, normally set the replacement pace. VRI all-refrigerators flag a worn-out Bluezone bulb by showing a Bluezone strip on the display; order bulb kit RBZB7, fit it, then press and keep a finger on the refrigerator selector key for 3 seconds to dismiss the warning.

For mechanical and electronic parts such as evaporator fans, defrost heaters and control boards, a genuine Viking part matches the original plugs and mounting points exactly. Aftermarket versions exist for some of them, but a board that is close rather than identical can add a second fault on top of the first.

What repairs cost once coverage runs out

Repair on built-in Viking refrigeration begins with one flat $89 visit that covers the trip and a full diagnosis, and that $89 is subtracted from the price if you go ahead with the work. Typical ranges look like this:

  • Refrigeration fan or defrost system: $300–$650
  • Control board or touch panel: $420–$600
  • Compressor or sealed-system repair: $1,450–$3,420

These are ranges, and the firm figure follows the diagnosis. A comparable new Viking costs far more than even the top of the sealed-system range, and in years seven to twelve the sealed-system part itself may be covered. Call (206) 202-2799 with the model and serial number in hand.

Asked after reading this

Do I have to register a Viking refrigerator to keep the warranty?

No, registration is not required for coverage. It only fixes the start date. Without a registration or a receipt, Viking counts from the production date in the serial number, which can fall months before you bought the refrigerator or moved in with it.

Is a Viking refrigerator that stops cooling in year five still covered?

Only if the sealed system is the cause. A failed compressor, a leak in the tubing or a bad dryer/strainer is covered for parts and labor through year six, but a seized fan, a defrost fault or a dead control board is not. A diagnosis separates the two, because both kinds of fault leave you with the same warm food compartment.

Does a refurbished or as-is Viking refrigerator have any warranty?

No Viking warranty applies to units sold as B-stock, liquidation, salvage, seconds, refurbished, as-is or used. Any protection would have to come from the seller, so get its terms in writing before you pay.

How often should the water filter in a Viking refrigerator be changed?

It depends on the model. The RVFFR336 wants a new RWFRVFFR every 6 months, FDREIC models take an RWFIC good for up to 12 months or 792.6 gallons, and older built-ins under manual F20413 need a fresh cartridge every nine months or 750 gallons.

What does Viking refrigerator repair cost after the warranty ends?

Most jobs start with an $89 visit and diagnosis that is credited toward the repair if you approve it. A fan or defrost repair typically runs $300–$650, a control board $420–$600 and sealed-system work $1,450–$3,420, with the firm quote given once the fault is found.

Often the phone call alone narrows it to one part. If it needs a visit, the $89 service call is deducted from the repair you approve, and the price is written down before a panel comes off.
